text: The hanging bridge has fallen into bad repair since last I was here, and my porters cross over with some anxiety, and carefuI (167) not to over-burden the frayed cane, leave great distances between each other. But the newly fledged head-hunters find this too slow and too boring; they rush into the river and wade through the water, sqatting on the other side while they strengthen themselves with a little boiled rice before the long climb.
