text: Today we have struggled on to Longsa feeling very limp after our fever. Bill rode the pony while I was carried in an armchair tied to two long bamboos. As I was borne along I felt as though the years had slipped away and I was another Maria Graham or Fanny Parkes scouring the countryside in a tonjon or jompan. In spite of their petticoats and voluminous skirts these women managed to see far more than we do today and were indefatigable in recording customs, natural history, geology and their views on God and Man.
