text: I woke up tired and sore all over but not actually ill. However my cold has now come through properly and I have a slight temperature. On top of that I have rather painful sunburn. I write some letters but cannot do much else. It is an oppressively hot and humid day. In the afternoon comes Dr Vieyera, the Civil Surgeon of Kohima. He comes from a Portuguese family but probably also has some Indian blood. I get on well with him and he has brought along all sorts of enjoyments of civilization such as drinks, and tin cans with preserves. In the evening it starts to pour.
