text: In the afternoon I worked with Me-dzou. Earthquakes are caused when a village Ang dies and on his way into the land of the dead cuts through the strong creepers which obstruct his path. Then all the people call "Don't fall, don't fall" so that the earth may stay still. Gashi apparently is in the plural. There are many in different places. People of the Ang clan avoid certain damp places and springs (54) because that is where the "great Gashi" live who can become dangerous to them. They do not do anything to Ben people.
