text: As we came to the old house of Shankok, his son Shoupa came out and greeted me as an old friend. He was dressed in white trousers and a shirt but yet resembled Shankok. He speaks English and (58) told me how pleased he was to see me. His father had often spoken about me. By now several older men had gathered and we all went into Shoupa's house. It did not seem changed at all, except perhaps a little more spacious, though I cannot be sure about this. We sat down round the fire on cane stools perhaps not existing in the old days, and were offered rice-beer of the cloudy type.
