text: 5th January, 187l, Thursday. Having succeeded in getting Pherimah, the neighbouring village to aid us with coolies I started off our baggage enroute for Piphemah and then went off with Mr. Ogle to the summit of the Kedibacha peak a point from which Mr. Ogle was enabled to see Samaguting and Setekema on the one hand and Chepama, Diphuma, Keruma. Kevema and Kohima on the other and so were well repaid for our stiff ascent. Our road today lay through Pherima and from thence along the path leading to Chepama until we reached the Kediba ridge when we turn off to our right on to the peak itself from which a long descent and short but stiff ascent brought us into Piphema. As this village contains only 18 houses and will therefore be unable to supply us with all the coolees we shall require tomorrow. I have sent off men to Kevemah and Keniphemah to come in to aid us as they did last year.
