text: 32. The rainfall registered at Kohima in 1886-87 was 77.75 inches, nearly the same fall as in the preceding year, when 76.33 inches were registered. At Wokha, on the other hand, the figures rose from 102.3 inches in 1885-86 to 112.57 in 1886-87. All the food crops gave a good outturn and the cotton crop is reported to have been an average one. The little potato planting that exists gave exceptionally good results. In addition to the Gurkha colonies round the station, a Kuki settlement near Kohima has commenced cultivating the tuber for purposes of sale and it is to be hoped that it may rapidly become established as one of the staples of the district.
