From December last the mails between Golaghat and Kohima, which had hitherto only been carried by daylight, have been conveyed throughout the night as well, and the distance of 97 miles is now covered in about 30 hours. A daily mail service was established between Kohima and Manipur in the place of the old weekly dak, and the length of time occupied in transit is now five days. In the Telegraph Department the temporary line between Golaghat and Kohima has been replaced by a permanent one, and a new permanent line to Manipur was also completed during the cold weather of 1886-87.
