text: No two Konyak villages were exactly alike. In some the houses were grouped together in one compact block, and enclosed with a fence or stockade, while in others they were scattered over the site in several clusters, interspersed with vegetable plots and bamboo groves. Where there was not sufficient even space to accommodate all the houses on one continuous site, groups of dwellings stood on different levels, often separated by ravines and broken ground.
