text: Usually, a gong was played by the men and boys of the morung to whom it belonged, but there were occasions when men of a neighboring village, who were paying a ceremonial visit, played their hosts' gong to honor, for instance, a deceased chief. During the initiation rites held for the boys entering a morung or during the celebrations following the bringing in of an enemy's head, it was appropriate for the girls and women of the morung to beat the gong.
