text: On days of ritual abstention from work, the men undertook no tasks, but for women there were always household duties that had to be performed. Of these, the most irksome, and at the same time the most unavoidable, was the fetching of wood and water. Both spring and woodstore were situated well below the village, and every trip involved a long climb with a heavy load on the back. Since water, at least, had to be fetched even on feast days, women enjoyed far less leisure than men.
