text: The members of a clan had a strong sense of pride in its achievements. Most clans had songs which praised the deeds of past clansmen and acclaimed its superiority vis-a-vis other clans. Such songs often emphasized that the clan had participated in the foundation of the village and that the members were, hence, true descendants of the village founder. Among old established families there was a slight tendency to look down upon later immigrants, and in a quarrel a man was sometimes reminded of his immigrant status.
