text: Undoubtedly, adolescent girls bore a greater burden of work than boys of the same age, and the duties of daughters within the parental household were more onerous than those of a son. Girls, nevertheless, enjoyed a fair measure of personal freedom, and their behavior was not subject to restrictive discipline. Yet, the duties and work of women were so closely regulated by routine that even a lazy girl had little chance of shirking the more troublesome domestic tasks, and there was no Konyak girl whose upbringing failed to train her in the duties required of a housewife.
