text: From a rest-platform at the end of the forest we looked down on the golden fields covering the slopes below us. Large numbers of men, women, and children were streaming to the fields with empty carrying baskets, and returning carrying loads of rice to the village. This two-way traffic continued the whole day, and some women did the 1,000 foot climb four times a day carrying on each ascent a heavy basket full of rice.
