text: On the following day we drove to the neighbouring village of Wanching, which was now also accessible by jeep. Wanching seemed (250) even less touched by modern influences than Wakching. Only a minority of the inhabitants were christians and the majority continued to perform the old rituals. The morung were in excellent shape the numerous carvings were painted brightly in red, white, and black. In addition there was a large church built on a prominent site overlooking the whole village. I was told that the pagan villagers had helped the Christians to build it, an act of neighbourly assistance apparently not reciprocated by the Christians when one of the morung was being rebuilt.
