text: Agriculture as it is practised at present does not yield a surplus which could be used to pay for the many manufactured goods Konyaks have become used to, such as kerosene, hurricane lamps, electric torches, textiles of various kinds, matches, soap, and cigarettes. At present all these goods are bought with the money disbursed by government agencies in the form of salaries to Konyak employees, wages for road-building and other projects, or gained by the sale of vegetables, chickens, and other local produce to the security forces stationed on Konyak land.
