text: The most emotional farewell was that from Shankok's sister Lipung. She sang for me a solo song, such as girls sing to improvised words, and the words were about me and Shankok and the old days. Holding my hand she said that although now she was old, she still felt like in the girls' dormitory, in those distant times, my return having revived the past and brought back to her mind all those who had died.
text: I too was sad as I walked down the long flight of stone steps on the Thepong path, and wondered whether I would ever return to Wakching.
